The goals of the Senate Bill 271 (SB 271) program are to:

  • Assess groundwater conditions across the state of Kentucky

  • Determine any influence of agricultural practices upon Groundwater quality

  • Establish research and educational programs that will assist Kentucky citizens in maintaining and improving groundwater quality

Legislation enacted by the 1990 General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky (Senate Bill 271) emphasized the importance of groundwater as a natural resource, recognized its vulnerability, and broadly defined public policy for groundwater management.
