HEIRLOOM FLOWERS
Deborah
Larkin formally of
Pleasant Hill
at Shakertown taught participants about heirloom flowers of which many were
grown by the Shakers. Deborah highlighted numerous flowers including Rose
Campion, Connecticut Tavern Columbine, City of
Harlem Hyacinth
, Pheasant Eye Pinks, and Calendula. Deborah gained some of her vast
knowledge about heirloom flowers from workshops at Monticello where she studied
flowers grown by Thomas Jefferson, which coincidentally grew many of the same
flowers as the Shakers. Participants received eight packages of heirloom
flowers each which were donated by Baker Creek and Seed Savers Exchange.
