USDA - Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program

Laura Peek of Springfield was hired on July 7, 2003 as Washington County’s new NEP Program Assistant. She will be attending her Core Curriculum training in Lexington at the UK College of Agriculture in July. Additional training core training was scheduled through August.

Laura Peek, NEP Program Assistant attend a new training with Michelle Lombardo of Wellness Incorporated in October 2003. She learned how to add fun to nutrition education programs using the ORGAN WISE GUYS. The Organ Wise Guys characters (Hardy Heart, Calci M. Bone, the Kidney Brothers and friends) are ideal vehicles for communicating health issues, inciting behavior change, and enlivening the education process for any age group.

NEP Program Assistant, Laura Peek, now has material from the March of Dimes regarding prenatal nutrition and the new Loving Support project. She attended training on these two topics in November 2003. The Loving Support projects encourages new mothers to breast-feed.
