Hotel Information: A block of rooms have been set aside at the Ramada Inn in Shelbyville (I-64 Exit 32, Hwy. 55) until October 09. The rate is $79.37 per night plus tax. You may make reservations by calling (502) 633-9933. Be sure to mention that you are with the Bluegrass Basket Guild. The hotel offers a deluxe breakfast, exercise room and local calls.

2. Turn LEFT onto KY-53/MT EDEN RD. (go 1.8 miles)
3. Merge onto I-64 W. (go 3.0 miles)
4. Take the KY-55/TAYLORSVILLE exit, EXIT 32, toward SHELBYVILLE. (go 0.2 miles)
5. Take the TAYLORSVILLE ramp toward FINCHVILLE. (go 0.0 miles)
6. Turn LEFT onto KY-55. (go 0.5 miles)
7. Turn RIGHT onto BREIGHTON BLVD. (go 0.1 miles)
8. Turn RIGHT onto BREIGHTON CIR. (go 0.2 miles)

Directions: The Shelby County Office is located at 1117 Frankfort Road, Shelbyville, KY 40065. Take exit 35 off I65, head North on Hwy53. Turn right onto US 60 East. It is approximately 1 ½ mile from stoplight on left.

FRIDAY CLASSES
FR1 – Kantuckit Leather Bowl
Teacher: Charles Crenshaw
12:00-5:00; 5 Hours
Cost - $60
Weaving Level: All Levels Dimensions of Project: 10 Inch diameter
Description: 10 inch Kantuckit bowl made of leather. The bowl starts with a 6 inch wooden base and reed spokes. Weave side with leather strips of one color and accent the center with a second color. Top is finished as a Nantucket basket with tacks and lashed with a thin strip of leather. This beautiful basket can set on your table or be filled with flowers or fruit.
FR2 – Daniel’s Toy

Weaving Level: All Levels Dimensions of Project: 17” W X 17” L x 17” T
Description: This roomy basket is great for toys, laundry or blankets, etc. Students will learn the twill weave technique. Weaved with natural reed with a touch of color. The basket is finished with bushel handles.
FR3 – Mother Earth’s Garden
Teacher: Janis Parker
12:00-6:00; 6 hours

Description: Gather the garden harvest with “Mother Earth’s Garden Basket”. This basket may be described as a long, oval, market basket. It is woven in garden colors (carrot, zucchini, squash and potato). A fabric seed packet embellishes the front of the basket.
FR4 – Cherokee Storage

Description: This is a Cherokee style basket woven in two colors. Students have a choice of green / blue combination or green / rust combination.
FR5– Mini Shaker Cathead
Teacher: Patty Feather
12:00 - 4:00; 4 Hours
Cost - $35
Weaving Level: All Levels Dimensions of Project: 5” W X 5” L X 7” T
Description: This basket is a mini version of the Shaker Cathead. The basket measures 5” by 7 1/2” and is woven with all natural materials. It is completed with a wooden handle.
FR6 A Girl’s Best Friend

Description: This basket is very sturdy and woven on a 6” X 10” wooden oval base. It is finished with wire handles. This basket is truly one of my favorites. It is large enough to hold an unfinished project or use for a small waste basket. But my favorite use, is to sit it by the couch holding my magazines, books, nail polish, files and of course the TV remote. Don’t waste another day without this little treasure.
FR7– Country

Description: The basket has a solid bottom with natural and dyed spokes. It is woven to create a beautiful design with natural and dyed reed. The basket is finished with 10” leather handles. This basket has many uses including a basket for the kitchen, magazines or as a sewing basket..
FR8 - Nantucket Style Candy Bowl

Weaving Level: All Levels Dimensions of Project: 6 1/2” in diameter X 4” T
Description: This basket is woven just like a Nantucket, only on a plastic mold. Half round rim with cane filler and lashing, with a walnut base. It’s an inexpensive way to make a Nantucket basket.
FR9 – Christmas Angel

7:00-9:00; 2 Hours

Weaving Level: All Levels Dimensions of Project: Approximately 6” long
Description: It’s time to start thinking about Christmas gifts and decorating the tree. Get a head start by making your own Christmas angles from basket reed. Add sparkles, a little gold ribbon and a few flowers and you have your own personalized angle. These make wonderful ornaments or a gift for a special someone. Make 1 in class and receive enough supplies to make another. (You may want to bring your hot glue gun.)
FR10 –Holiday Pocket

7:00-9:00; 1 to 2 Hours

Weaving Level: All Levels Dimensions of Project: Approximately 4” X 6”
Description: This festive little pocket is a great tree ornament and also makes a nice gift or package topper when you need a little something extra to give. Students will learn the simple technique of making a flat basket and picket fence top. Kit will include enough material to make 3 pockets.
SATURDAY CLASSES
SA1 –Kantuckit Basket with Lid
Teacher: Charles Crenshaw
8:00-4:00; 8 Hours
Cost - $100
Weaving Level: All Levels Dimensions of Project: 10” in diameter X 10” Tall excluding handle
Description: This basket starts with a 6” wood base with 3/8” flat oval spokes. It is woven with leather strips and finished at the top like a Nantucket basket. Contrasting leather strips are added to accent the basket. The basket if finished with a stamped or carved lid design tooled on leather with a choice of knobs. A wood handle completes the basket. Makes a great sewing basket.
SA2 –Plaid Storage

8:00-12:00; 4 Hours

Weaving Level: All Levels Dimensions of Project: 8” W X 13” L X 6” H
Description: This is an easy basket with colorful results. It is woven in green and rust stakes and weavers. The maple weavers have a stamped design that you will do in class. The rim is doubled lased and two small bushel handles finish the basket.
SA3 –Square Egg

Description: This square rib style basket is a great one for learning the God’s Eye, adding ribs, and weaving and shaping a rib basket. It is make on 10” square hoops and is a great size to give as a gift or enjoy for yourself.
SA4– Cathead Blanket

8:00-4:00; 8 Hours

Description: This BIG basket is great for holding a couple of blankets or afghans. Students will learn how to do a cathead bottom, shaping and adding curls.
SA5– Fall Orchard

8:00-2:00; 6 Hours

Weaving Level: All Levels Dimensions of Project: 7” W X 16 1/2” L X 9 1/2” T excluding the handle
Description: This basket starts with a solid bottom with the Chicken design on the inside. It is woven with natural and Cornucopia (Gold, Cocoa Brown and Paprika) spaced dyed reed. The basket has 2 “D” swing handles with a fall embellishment. It is big enough to hold your items from the garden, use as picnic basket or for your craft items.
SA6– Large Spiral with Lid

Cost - $60
Weaving Level: All Levels Dimensions of Project: 8 1/2” W X 8 1/2” L X 14” T
Description: Large continuous weave jar shaped basket with walnut/cherry stripped base, lid and uniquely turned knobs. An over two twill pattern will spiral up sides and is emphasized with dyed overlays. Lashing may be finished after class.
SA7– Colonial Storage

8:00-2:00; 6 Hours

Weaving Level: All Levels Dimensions of Project: 11” W X 18” L X 8” T excluding the handle
Description: This spacious basket is reminiscent of baskets by early settlers. A strong solid bottom, woven on a D hoop is sturdy enough to use for any purpose. It is simple to weave, yet has a lovely design using natural and earth tones of gold, brown and smoked reed. I’m sure that you will be able to find a storage use for this basket– just as your ancestors did.

IMPORTANT: Please send this completed Registration Form, a stamped self-addressed envelope, and your check for $20.00 made payable to “Bluegrass Basket Guild” to Ardia Herndon, 3034 Plum Ridge Road, Taylorsville, KY 40071. You will receive confirmation of your classes as soon as possible. At that time you will be asked to send post-dated checks for your classes made payable to the individual instructors. Please do not send class fees with this registration information.
Registrations must be postmarked no later than Saturday September 5, 2009. A $5 late charge will be applied to all applications received after September 5. NO applications will be accepted after September 15.
