The Clothes Line of Quilts Project started after Donna Sue Grove of Southern Ohio designed and painted a quilt square on the side of her family’s tobacco barn to honor her mother’s quilting.  The Barn Quilt project quickly spread to Kentucky and Tennessee.  Kentucky’s first two quilt squares were unveiled May, 2005 in Carter County.  There are now squares in Greenup, Elliott, and other east Kentucky counties.  Steering committees have been formed in Clark and Madison Counties.

Not to be outdone, the Buffalo Gals Extension Homemaker Club in Scott County began working to initiate the project in their community.  Although the group is small, the effort is mighty.  The group constructed and installed 142 barn quilts by the end of 2008.

In December 2008, the group voted to devote their time to other projects for the community.  They have made their instructions available on this site.
