To join the Montgomery County Cattlemen's Association you need to visit us at the Extension Office on East Locust Street, or you can contact one of the officers. The cost is $15 per person. You may also join the Kentucky Cattlemen's Association at our office as well for $30 additional fee.

Montgomery County Extension offers educational opportunities to producers and Agri-businessmen on crops, disease, pest management, farm and business management, risk management, erosion control, livestock management and water quality.  Programs are offered throughout the year.

 UPCOMING MEETINGS

  • The Extension Office is offering a Family Gardening Series for the next several months. If you are interested please come by the Extension Office to sign up. The first class was November 29th. The next class will be on January 31st at 6:30 pm.  The title will be "Planting and Growing More in Less Space." Contact the office if you are interested.
  •  
  • Check out the new 911 Alert System.  Everyone in the county will benefit from this new Emergency Alert System. You should have received a call from the system if you have a 'land line'. If you do not but want to be alerted when there is severe weather or some other kind of emergency in your area of the county, you can do so by going to the county's website at www.montgomerycounty.ky.gov and clicking on the link under Emergency Notification. You only give your name, address and the phone number you want added to the call list. (cell phone, etc.) Read more about this in Ron's news article under NEWS on this website, December 8th.

  • The Montgomery County Farmer's Market has closed now They will reopen next spring 2012 again on Wednesday's and Saturday's at 7:00 am.  They are located at the Montgomery Square Shopping Center off the by-pass. You can Stop by and visit them next year.

 

  •  Cattlemen's Association Meetings are held at the Montgomery County Health & Civic Center 7:00 pm.  Their next meeting will be in February, 2012 and will be on the second Monday, which will be the 13th.  Cattlemen's dues are $15 for now and can be paid at any of the regular meetings or at our office. 
  • The phone numbers to the extension office, are 859-498-8741 or 498-8742 or you can stop by.  We are open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  And we are open through your lunch hour.

  • The Soil Conservation office has a new Skid loader with trailer and backhoe attachment for rent. Contact their office at 498-5654 for more information. They also have no-till drill seeders for rent.  Also, they are taking applications for forage cost share program. They can be picked up at the Extension Office or at the Soil Conservation office.
  • With the ending of the old year and the beginning of a new year, it's time to pick up your new farm record books at the Extension Office. The cost is $5.00 each. They make a world of difference in record keeping. Stop by today and pick one up.

  • Soil Testing is available at the extension office. Each sample costs $7 each as of January 1, 2010. We also have soil probes for loan if you would like to pick up one to make the job of taking soil samples easier. We do ask for a deposit for the probe but your deposit will be returned as soon as the probe is returned to the office. It normally takes between 7 and 10 days to get results back on your soil samples so don't delay, take your soil samples today. Info on taking Soil Samples.   • If you are a cow/calf producers, we have a pocket record book in which you can record calf records. It also has a wealth of information for your use as well. Beef Integrated Resource Management calendars are here too.

 

  • DO YOU NEED A VEGETABLE GARDENING BOOK? WELL, WE HAVE NEW ONES IN THE OFFICE NOW. STOP BY AND PICK ONE UP TODAY.

  • Hay and Livestock Marketing Opportunities by the Montgomery County Agriculture Marketing Program, which is compiling a list of hay that is for sale and those who need to purchase hay.  Call John McDonald for more information at 859-585-0448.  Also John will be glad to assist you in any livestock purchasing or selling.
