Dana
R. Anderson County Extension Agent for 4-H Youth Development
WHO: Any
youth 5-18 years old. All youth enrolled in public schools 4th grade
thru 8th grade will be enrolled thru their school 4-H club.
WHAT: Become 4-H member
HOW: Complete 4-H member application and return it to the Extension
Office. Reminder, all 4-H youth must complete enrollment form for this year
2006-2007.
COST: No membership fees, some activities may have cost to pay for
supplies.
Mercer
County 4-H bad weather policy: If school is canceled or the roads are in
poor shape, the 4-H activity/event that is scheduled for that day will also be
canceled and rescheduled for a later date. If you are in question please

Honors Program
The 4-H Honors Program is intended to recognize 4-H
participants who have outstanding accomplishments in citizenship and leadership
and provide incentive for youth to increase their knowledge, skills and
abilities. every effort is made to make this 4-H program inclusive to all
eligible youth.

Dustin
Worthington "I Love Cows" Essay Contest
A memorial award has been established in the
name of Dustin Worthington. The award will be a heifer calf. The
main reason the program was established was because of Dustin's love of working
with cattle. Applicants must be an active participant of 4-H or FFA.
Participants are asked to write an essay and complete an application.
Application form may be picked up at the Extension Office or FFA Advisors after
February 1. Application deadline is March 1. For more information

Awards Trip
Mercer County 4-H is sponsoring
an awards trip for 4-H youth as a reward for their participation in 4-H
activities and projects. The awards trip is presented to youth who must
complete three of the following activities to be eligible for the trip.
Activities/projects must be completed during the 4-H year from September 1, 2006
thru August 31, 2007. They may choose from the following activities:
1. Complete
a 4-H project, exhibit the project at the County Fair.
2. Complete the project record
3. Present a speech at the County-Wide contest
4. Present a
demonstration at the County-Wide contest
5. Participate in a Community Service Project
6. Exhibit project at the 4-H Pumpkin Day
7. Perform at the County Talent Show
Aluminum Tabs Collection
Mercer County 4-H and Mercer
County Extension Homemakers will be sponsoring the Aluminum Tab Collection
Contest in January at each school. The proceeds from this contest will be
used to send kids with cancer to summer camp. Students will collect
aluminum tabs from soft drink cans, pop-off lids of food and pet food. START SAVING THOSE TABS!
Community Service Scholarship
Program
Any youth interested in receiving
financial assistance to attend a 4-H activity (such as camp) may apply for
scholarship. The Community Service scholarship is based on the youth
completing community service work. For every 10 hours of service the
youth can receive $40.00 in scholarship. The guidelines are as
follows: 1) Youth cannot receive more than two scholarships.
2) The calendar year for the program is July 1--June 30. 3)
All community service work must be done for a non-profit agency or completed
with group community service project. 4) All
community service hours must be completed and submitted to the Extension
Office 10 days prior to the 4-H activity/event for which it is being

INFORMATION
4-H Clover Buds
Any youth between 5 and 8 years
old are invited to join the Mercer County 4-H Cloverbud Club. The club meets
on the (3rd or 4th) Wednesday of each
month from 2:00-4:15 p.m. at the Mercer County Extension Office. The first
meetings will start in September. The cost will be $5.00 for each meeting. The
kids will make crafts, food projects, and learn about other 4-H projects. Please

Hoofprints Horse Club
The normal meeting time will be the
first and third Thursday of each
month at 6:00 p.m. at the Mercer County Extension Service. To be put on the mailing
list please contact the Mercer County Extension Office.

Project Club
Any
youth in Mercer County are invited to participate in the Project Club.
This club will take the place of the Craft Club. Participants will attend monthly meetings where they will make a wide variety
of 4-H projects. We are asking any youth interested to please contact the
Extension Office by phoning 734-4378. It is very important that youth be
pre-registered to attend so we can have enough supplies. The fee is $5.00 per
meeting. We are also looking for a leader to assist with Project Club. If you or someone you know are interested, please contact the

Salvisa
Community 4-H Club
Any
youth in the Salvisa Area are invited to join the Salvisa 4-H Club. The club
meets on the third Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Salvisa Ruritan
Building. For more

Haggin
Hospital Helping Hands Club (Adopt-A-Grandparent)
All 4-H youth
are invited to join in with the adopt-a -grandparent program at Haggin
Hospital Extended Care Unit. This will be an organized group that will meet
monthly and do projects together with the residents.

The 4-H paintball club is a group that is dedicated to having fun and learning sportsmanship and fair
