McCreary County Hiking Club

Our Hiking Program began in March 2007.  We are not really a “club” per say, currently there is not a membership process, dues,  or elected officers.

The majority of our hikes have been in McCreary County.  One does not have to be from McCreary County to participate, we welcome anyone that wants to enjoy the great outdoors, and we happen to think we have some of the most beautiful outdoors right here in McCreary County.

As of now we do not charge a fee.  We do have some hikes planned that may require a small transportation fee. You will be notified in advance if a transportation fee will be required.

We have many miles of hiking trails here in the Daniel Boone National Forest and Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area.  We also have some trails available on private land.

Pets are welcome as long as they remain on a leash, are well behaved and people friendly.

We welcome kids on the hikes.  You know your child and their abilities. I will try to remember to list the difficulty each month.  Any youth under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

I notify everyone by e-mail about news and events through a distribution list.  Notices are sent BCC so your e-mail address cannot be seen by others.  If you would like to be added to the distribution list e-mail me at gwhitis@uky.edu

Participants must supply and carry their own food and water.

We normally meet at the McCreary County Cooperative Extension Service Office parking lot to begin our adventure.  The Extension Office is located in the McCreary Center of Somerset Community College in Whitley City, KY.
