Communications Day 2012

Enclosed you will find the guide for the 2012 Communications Day.  We have included several things we hope will be useful in preparing your students for the contest.  Feel free to copy any part of this packet for use in your classroom. The information is found by clicking on the links below.

Please note that McCracken County Communications Day will be held at St. Mary High School at 6:00 p.m. There will be separate judges for Speeches and Demonstrations.  If your students wish to compete in both, that can be arranged just as it will be at the area contest.  If you have indicated to your agent that your students will participate in both, you will receive a separate letter and packet on the demonstration contest as well.  If you have any questions, please give us a call.

Speech Information:

Each classroom or club may enter one student in each age category per classroom or club.  For instance, if you have students age nine and ten in the fourth grades and students ten and eleven in the fifth grades, you may bring one nine and one ten year old from each fourth grade classroom and one ten year old and one eleven year old from each fifth grade classroom.  We will not have run-offs in any category at the county contest this year.  For this reason, we ask that all ties at the school level be broken.  No exceptions please!

Demonstration Information:

There are 18 different categories in both Junior and Senior Demonstrations.  Each classroom or 4-H Club may enter one student in each category.  No ties please!

PLEASE NOTE!  Registration sheets can be found on the back of your contest guide.  Fully completed forms for both contests are due to the Extension Office by February 6, 2012. Registered contestants will receive a letter with the contest time, date and place, as well as a score sheet.  This will be mailed directly to their home.

If you would like your 4-H agent to do a 30 - 45 minute presentation on how to prepare a speech, please call our office A.S.A.P. at 554-9520.  We will be scheduling speech and demonstration presentations through the end of January.

The 4-H Communications Project is an excellent opportunity to meet many of the KERA Learner Goals.  We sincerely hope you will utilize this program.  Thank you.
