Music Highway Route
23 Yard Sale May
29-30-31, 2008 Every group/organization/club or
individual in Martin County is invited to participate in the first ever Route 23
Yard Sale to be held May 29-30-31, 2008. The Yard Sale will reach from
Greenup County to Letcher County all along Route 23. The US 127 Corridor
Yard Sale, which extends through central Kentucky and Indiana and Tennessee
reports thousands of travelers/shoppers just having a good time looking for
bargains. What is really happening is they stay in motels, eat in restaurants,
and actually take the time to patronize local arts and crafts businesses within
the communities they visit. Final result, an infusion of revenue into their
economy! We expect our Route 23 Yard Sale to be a huge success with much
growth each year. We have a few rules we must follow; first, we can NOT set-up any sales areas on Kentucky State Highway Property (property that joins the road), second, there is no charge for a space, each group/individual must furnish their own tables/etc, and everyone is responsible to keep the area clean at all times. There are no specified times to open and close the Yard Sale, so come and go as you need. Be sure to have a good looking sales area with lots of signs, balloons and etc. We do have space reserved for Martin County residents and we invite and encourage everyone to join us in this area. The area is located at the intersection of US 23 and Route 645 where a flea market was located until it burned several years ago. We really appreciate the generosity of Howard and Opal Meade for allowing Martin County residents to use this space. Start passing the word, collecting your yard sale treasures, and secure your space along US 23 Country Music Highway, and be prepared to welcome visitors to your neighborhood with a friendly taste of mountain hospitality.
