Family & Consumer Sciences
Strengthening the family through research-based education has long been a goal of the Kentucky Family and Consumer Sciences program. We have helped families invest in their future by helping them develop the competency to choose nutritious foods, manage resources, provide quality care for children and dependent elderly, and become community leaders. Developing strong individuals and families is essential to the future growth and productivity of our state and nation. The Kentucky Extension Homemakers Association (KEHA) is a volunteer organization that works to improve the quality of life for families and communities through leadership, development and education in cooperation with the Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service. Annual membership is $8.00 to become a member-at-large or a club member. Memberships are renewed annually in November. To join a club, become a member-at-large, or organize a new club, contact the Logan County Extension Office at (270) 726-6323. You may submit your payment to the Logan County Extension Office, 121 S. Spring St., Russellville KY 42276. The purpose of homemaker clubs is to provide information education for the family. Lessons are taught on topics ranging from food and nutrition, health, clothing, family economics, home furnishings, and consumer education.
Logan County currently has 10 active homemaker clubs with over 230 members. A majority of the clubs meet during the day; however, several meet during the evening. Clubs meet monthly in homes, churches, restaurants, or at the Extension Office. Each month clubs have a program of interest for their members. These programs are taught by members on a rotating basis. Club members have the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities and events throughout the year, including trips, programs and seminars. For more information click here:
