FSNE

The Lawrence County Food Stamp Nutrition Education Program is federally funded and administered by the University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service. The program targets low-income families and individuals with nutrition education. The goal of the program is to educate limited resource families, senior citizens and Food Stamp clientele to achieve and maintain good health, avoid running out a food, plan nutritious meals on a limited budget, acquire safe food handling practices, improve food preparation skills and change behavior necessary to have a healthy lifestyle.  Educational programs are based on nutritional needs of participants.  Youth programs are based on school core content.  All materials presented are research based educational materials developed by specialists.  Programs are carried out in a wide variety of locations such as:  Blaine Elementary School, Fallsburg Elementary School, Lawrence County High School, Lawrence County Housing Authority, Lawrence County Senior Citizens Center, Lawrence County Adult Education Center, Lawrence County Farmers’ Market, grocery stores, local agencies, community centers, etc.
