Community Education

The Purpose

The Laurel County Community Education Program provides educational, recreational, cultural and enrichment activities and services for people of all ages, within the entire community of Laurel County. The program is co-sponsored by the Laurel County Cooperative Extension Service and the Laurel County Board of Education. It represents a cooperative effort among the schools, various community agencies and interested citizens to coordinate and utilize the resources of the schools and community to more effectively meet people’s needs and interests.

How to use this Community Education Guide

¨ Classes are listed in topic order, if you have any questions call the sponsoring agency.

¨ Register for classes by calling the phone number listed for that particular class.

¨ Payments should be made one to two weeks prior to each class, unless noted otherwise.

¨ Post dated checks are not acceptable forms of payment since supplies need to be purchased prior to class.

¨ Because fees and class size determine whether a particular course will be held, we ask that no refunds be given unless for some unseen reason the class had to cancel. We appreciate your cooperation in this matter.

¨ In most cases, materials are not included as part of the class fee. If books and supplies are needed the person will be informed in the first session the class meets.

¨ Generally, for a class to be offered, at least 10 participants are necessary. In the event that insufficient registration requires cancellation of a class, participants will be notified prior to the first day of class, by phone or letter.

¨ Classes sponsored by the Community Education Program will not meet any time schools are closed for the holidays or inclement weather. If in doubt, contact the sponsoring agency or listen for radio and TV announcements.

¨ The instructors are well qualified to serve in the fields they teach, and in many cases served as a specialist.
