Reality Store

The goals of the Reality Store are:

• To give students a glimpse of their future in fun and exciting way.
• To help all students become aware of basic skills in financial planning, goal setting, decision making and career planning.
• To clarify the need for young women and men to examine their attitudes about their futures and their career expectations.
• To motivate students to stay in school, stay away from drugs and avoid teenage pregnancy.
• To help students learn whether their occupation will provide the type of lifestyle they want.

The 2009 4-H Reality Store will be held April 30th at LaRue County Middle School for all 8th graders. Each student will choose an occupation, will be assigned a salary, and randomly draw a number representing the number of children their responsible for. They then visit various booths such as Uncle Sam, transportation, housing, food, utilities and child care. Most students will finish with at least a little money left over at the end of the month, although many will have to take on a part-time job to make ends meet!
