KEAFCS
The Kentucky Extension Association of Family and Consumer
Sciences (KEAFCS) is a professional organization of Family and
Consumer Sciences employees of the University of Kentucky
College of Agriculture and the Kentucky State University
Cooperative Extension Service.
There are Extension Agents for Family and Consumer
Sciences in all 120 counties of Kentucky.
We’re your neighbors and friends.
We live and work in your community.
We serve as an extension of the state’s land grant
universities, The University of Kentucky and Kentucky State
University, to provide information and teach skills to help
people improve their lives.
Working
through the statewide KEAFCS network, Extension professionals
joined with the Kentucky Department of Agriculture and the
University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service to
develop the Pride of Kentucky book.
This project is part of our educational programming.
The book is a great resource of information about
purchasing and using high-quality, safe Kentucky commodities
to reach nutritional recommendations for better health.
It also contains stories about the rich food heritage
of our state and gives information about agri-tourism sites
and festivals to visit..
We have worked closely with agricultural commodity
groups to enhance marketing opportunities for Kentucky
producers as consumers learn more about our diverse
agriculture commodities, where to find them, and how to use
them.
The
proceeds from the sale of this book will be used to establish
an education endowment through the non-profit KEAFCS.
This will provide long-term financial support and
incentives for strengthening partnership consumer education
programs focusing on the promotion of Kentucky agricultural
commodities and value-added products.
Through
our work as County Extension Agents and Extension
professionals for Family and Consumer Sciences all across the
state, we know about our plentiful supply of high quality,
safe, nutritious agricultural products; our diverse food
culture and rural traditions; and the wonderful places that
showcase our agriculture industry.
From Paducah to Pikeville, Covington to Corbin, and all
the communities in between, we are pleased to share the best
of the Commonwealth with you through the Pride of Kentucky cookbook.
