Extension Leadership
The Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service is dependent upon the broad-based participation of local citizens. That involvement is accomplished through the Extension advisory council system. The Extension Council is an organized body of volunteer leaders that counsels with Extension agents in the identification of local problems and issues, assists in program implementation, participates in determining program success, and communicates program accomplishments and funding needs to decision makers.
Our Current Extension Board Includes:
John Emerson Smith, Bill Burckle, Larry Jeffries, Mark Roberts, Ginger Coombs, Joe Barmore, John Logan Brent & Treasurer Sandra
Stivers.
Each year the Henry County Extension Council selects a project to work on. Two years ago they selected the “Remembrance Event” which recognized the contributions made by veterans during WWII. The Council was recognized for their project by winning the Randall Barnett Extension Council award which included a $500 prize. Last year the council’s project included the
“100 Years of Education” project with special recognition to Black History Month. This year the Council has selected to participate in the
2nd Wind Dreams program.
2nd Wind Dreams

Second Wind Dreams strikes again! Anna Catherine Martin and Doris Robertson enjoyed a new hairstyle and perm from Debbie Derossett compliments of the New Castle United Methodist Women as a part of the Second Wind Dreams program being co-sponsored by the Henry County Extension Council and Homestead Nursing Center. Pictured left to right are Anna Catherine Martin, Doris Robertson, Debbie Derossett, and Edith Tennill with the Methodist Women.
This program is working at senior living facilities all over the world and has just started in Henry County this fall. Co-chairmen of the project are Sue Barnett and Earl Goff Administrator at Homestead and for the first go round we have a list of 10 ‘dreams’ that residents have requested. |
|
|
The first dream was for a new quilt, the second dream provided Anna and Doris with new perms that will take them through the upcoming holiday season, and soon the WMU in the county will be purchasing another resident a new outfit. If your group is interested in granting a ‘dream’ contact Sue, Earl or the Extension Office. The next committee meeting for the project will be held at the Extension Office at 11:30 on Friday November 3rd. Everyone is welcome. |
 |
The Henry County Extension Council is sponsoring the Second Wind Dreams program for their annual project in cooperation with Homestead Nursing Center. Co-chairmen of the program are Sue Barnett of Turners Station and Earl Goff, Administrator at Homestead. Second Wind Dreams is an international non-profit organization that enhances the quality of life for those living in elder care communities by granting ‘wishes’. Pictured here is the first wish presentation with Wanda Thurman, Frieda Burton, and Sue Barnett admiring the lovely quilt that Frieda had wished for. Special thanks to Wal-Mart for their support of the project. The Second Wind Dreams Committee will be coordinating other dreams and will be meeting on Friday, November 3rd at 11:30 at the Extension Office. |
|
We presently have a list of 10 dreams and know that there are many more that could be filled. For more information call the Extension Office at 845-2811, Earl Goff at Homestead 845-2861 or Sue Barnett. |
