Helping hands and caring hearts reaching out in the fight against childhood hunger.

The Backpack Program is a collective effort of the Hardin County Homemakers, the County Extension Service, America’s Second Harvest of Kentucky’s Heartland, area schools, churches, civic groups, businesses and the community at large.

Groups meet once a week to fill bags with non-perishable foods. The bags are delivered to participating schools, and on Fridays the bags are placed in the backpacks of participating children. The children take home food they can eat over the weekend.

As the program expands to serve all public elementary, middle and high schools in Hardin County, the need for food supplies and helping hands also grows.
