Variety Show Rules

Date:  March 13, 2006
            Registration Deadline, March 10th

1.  Only one person other than 4-H participants, such as a pianist, may accompany the act.  Others may help set up and remove props, etc.

2.  Only 4-H participants may appear on the stage during the act.

3.  Time limits for club and specialty acts for area and state show are the same as the county show.  (Four minutes for specialty acts and eight minutes for club acts.)

4.  An act exceeding the time limit should be permitted to finish.  It should not be considered, however, by the judges in the selection of a champion act for the show. Organizing and staging a show within the time limit is an important learning experience for the 4-H’er.

5.  Specialty Acts shall consist of four 4-H participants or fewer and have a time limit of four minutes.  One area winner will be selected in both Junior (Age 9-13) and Senior Specialty (age 14-19).  The Junior and Senior Specialty winner will receive one trophy per division; all champion participants will receive flat champion ribbon.

6.  The time limit for the Club Act is eight minutes.  One Area Club act will be designated as champion. Champion and Reserve club acts will receive a trophy.  Champion participants will receive flat champion ribbon.

a.  There is no upper limit on the number of 4-H participants from a club who can participate.  

b.   Minimum requirements for the purpose of judging are:

1.  20% of the club participants or five participants, whichever is greater, must be involved.

2.  In clubs where the membership is 125 or more, 25 participants will be the minimum participation required.

c.   Since participation is of utmost importance, the combination of clubs for the of presenting a club or specialty act is not permitted.

 7.   Dramatic readings can be entered as Variety Show competition.
