Awareness of the World of
Work: Unit
1 Grades 4 through 6
Through this project, the 4-H'ers will learn more about their
community and county, their family and themselves and will take
a brief look at the world of work. They will look at the leaders
in their community and the county officials and the work they
do. They also will learn about the kinds of resources and the
types of industries in Kentucky. Several supplemental activities
are suggested.

This comprehensive program was custom tailored to Kentuckys
special needs including detailed KERA objectives. The project
includes program outlines with sample letters and materials.
Career Exploration Inventory

12
The self-scoring and self-interpreting interest instrument will
help youth realize their interest and target them to potential
careers. Unlike similar devices, the curriculum utilizes three
major areas of interest: work, leisure, and learning. The worksheet
is easy to follow and can be used in many situations.
Job Applications, An
Introduction To Grades 9 through 12
This program and video will teach audiences how to complete applications
correctly thus increasing their chances for an interview. Avoiding
problem questions that are designed to screen applicants will
be discussed. This is a must activity for anyone going into the
job market.
Learn & Earn Grades 7 through 12
4-Hers will learn life skills by directing them through
a business venture in this project. Topics include Getting Ready,
Choosing a Business, Starting your Business Plan, Making Financial
Decisions, Managing the Business, Planning the Business Operation,
Presenting the Business, Check Progress, Closing-Up Shop, and
The Public Meeting.
Resume Writing: Getting
the Interview Grades
9 through 12
The importance of proper resume writing techniques are stressed
in relation to the overall job seeking approach. The basics of
three styles of resume writing are discussed with sample blank
informational sheets. A vivid video explains how a properly designed
resume makes a difference in an employers decision to interview
and hire.
Shadowing Elected Officials
This information talks about a shadowing program organized in
Hawaii. It covers many of the major concerns of starting a shadowing
program in regards to elected officials. Topics covered include
orientation activities, Resources, Contacting Officials, Sharing
Experiences, and Evaluations. |
