Activities
4-H Camp
Almost 30 people from Green County will spend a week of boating, swimming, archery, crafts, nature study, and recreation at Lake Cumberland. Each year, Green County 4-H needs leaders to provide this safe, educational, and fun activity. The cost is $175. (Materials are generally released after Feb 1)
4-H Horse Club
Our local Mighty Mustangs 4-H Club is a very active club. Monthly educational meetings are held as well as practices for horse events like Horse Bowl, Horse Shows, Horse Judging, etc. The new Mighty Mustang 4-H Arena is being developed and utilized by many organizations in the community including the club's annual Horse Camp. Contact the 4-H office for more information.
Project Record Books
Project Record books are small workbooks related to topics of interest to youth. Most will include information and activities to help you develop skills related to your project. There are over 40 different topics to choose from. State Fair exhibits are selected from completed Project activities. Projects are due June 1 of each year.
Talk Meet
Gives 4-Hers the opportunity to speak before a group. The contest is divided into age groups. Speeches may be given on any topic, and you can get assistance from many sources.
Demonstrations
Demonstrations involve speaking with the use of props to help in showing and telling. Divisions are made according to subject matter and age.
Judging Contest
Practice decision making while learning what "qualities" to look for in livestock, horses, dairy cattle, vegetables, and land.
Animal Shows
If you have selected an animal project or have interest, you may enter your animal in area or state shows. There are categories for most animals including shows for beef, sheep, swine, dairy, goat, horse rabbits, and dogs.
Bicycle Rodeo
Demonstrate your safety and driving skills during the Bicycle Rodeo sponsored by 4-H during the Green County Fair. Winners in seven age categories can advance to the State Fair. Additional Information: Inspection Form Obstacle Events
Fashion Revue
Each spring, 4-Hers wear something they sewed themselves at the Fashion Revue. Some older youth even make their own prom formal wear. It is a good way to practice poise, too.
Teen Leadership Club
High school studens are eligible to participate in the Leadership Club. The club meets outside of school on days that school is not in session, typically once a month. The focus of the club is leadership through community service. A maximum of ten students can participate each year; applications are due the last weekday of each August. Application
Honor's Applications
As a Senior 4-H member, there is recognition available to you that has not been possible as a Junior 4-H member. It is the Kentucky 4-H Honors Program. There are 3 levels of achievements. They are Bronze Honor, Silver Honor, and Gold Honor. It is possible for you to achieve all three levels of honor. The pamphlet - Kentucky 4-H Honors Program (4LO-30SO) gives a more detailed description of the Honors program and the requirements for each level. Application forms for all three Honor levels follow. Shooting Sports
This program teaches safety and proper use of firearms. After training and practice, 4-Hers may enter area and state competition in archery, air rifle/pistol, BB, black powder, rifle/pistol, shot gun, and 22 rifle/pistol.
