Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) The Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) is an integral part of the Grant County Cooperative Extension Service. The EFNEP program assistant in Grant County is Rita Henry. EFNEP serves rural and urban families with young children. It has effectively increased the families’ ability to manage a limited food budget and select more nutritious diets. A young single parent woman with limited employment opportunities often heads the EFNEP family. She may lack adequate health care and housing. Developing a social support network and learning money management, parenting, food safety and food preparation skills will benefit the woman and her children. While EFNEP focuses on nutrition education, the family needs to link to the full spectrum of educational programs available through the Cooperative Extension Services and other community partners addressing the needs of limited resource families.
