Gallatin County Barn Quilt Square Project
Welcome to the Gallatin County Barn Quilt Square Project Homepage. This project is modeled after the Adams County, Ohio (a Clothesline of Quilts), which was inspired by Donna Sue Groves, a southern Ohio Field Office for the Ohio Arts Council. She created this innovative project as a tribute to her mother, Maxine Groves, a noted Ohio quilter, and to encourage travelers to choose routes through the southern Ohio country side while highlighting Appalachian heritage.
Without the hard work fo the dedicated committee of volunteers, this project would not have been possible in Gallatin County. On Saturday, July 21, 2007, the first square was officially dedicated. The "Kentucky Crossroads" Quilt Pattern block is proudly displayed on the barn at the farm of Clarence and Atha Stewart, located at Ky. Highway 1039 and I-71. In November, 2007, the second square "The Mariner's Compass" was painted and installed on the barn at the farm of Lem and Carolyn Bledsoe, located at 549 US Highway 42 West, Warsaw (about one mile west of Warsaw, Kentucky), The third square "The Farmer's Daughter" is on display next door to the Bledsoe's at the Gallatin County Extension Office, located at 395 US Highway 42 West, Warsaw. The fourth block entitled "Library Date" is on display at the Gallatin County Public Library, located at 209 West Market Street, Warsaw, Kentucky.
A special thank you goes to the "Barn Quilt Square" committee for their dedication to this project and the Gallatin County Soil Conservation District for their support.
