Fleming Co. Fall Show and Sale News...
------  --------  --------------------------------------------------------------------  ------  ------
4-H members needing 6 hours of classes
4-H members need 6 hours of classes before
tagging feeder claves, lambs, hogs or goats on May 10,
if you did not receive your 6 hours, you were not be allowed to tag animals.

--------  ------  ------
Fleming Co. Fall Show and Sale Rule changes for 2007
as adopted by the 4-H and FFA LIA Committee

A 4-H or FFA may sell only one animal per year in the Fleming County Fall Show and Sale.
That one animal can be either beef/lamb/hog.
Hogs will sell at the Fleming County Fall Show and Sale and not at the Ewing Fair.
There is no Ewing Fair Hog Show sponsored by the 4-H and FFA LIA.
Beef and lambs must show at the Ewing Fair in order to be eligible to sell at the
Fleming County Fall and sale.
Feeder Calves will sell at the Fleming county Fall Show and Sale and
count as the one animal sold per year by members and must show at Ewing.
Feeders will be shown in a light weight steer class.
Heifers will sell at the Fleming County Fall Show and Sale as Market Heifers
and count as the one animal sold per year by members and must show at Ewing.
Beef Showmanship will be held at the Fleming County Fall Show and Sale
which will include feeder calves and heifers.  Lamb and Hog Showmanship will also be held.
------  --------  --------------------------------------------------------------------  ------  ------
RUles for 4-H’ERS SHOWING Livestock!
Kentucky 4-H has a rule which will affect every 4-H Member interested in showing livestock.
For animals that must attend a tagging day
(market steers, market lambs, market hogs and market goats),
members must attend 6 hours of educational classes BEFORE the tagging date.
Failure to do so will eliminate the 4-H Member from participating in the livestock program.
In addition, all members with breeding animals –
beef, lamb, hogs, goats and dairy will also need the 6 hours.

Any member who has any interest in showing any of the
above animals is strongly encouraged to attend.
------  --------  --------------------------------------------------------------------  ------  ------
Members showing Market steer and Market heifers
needed the 6 hours before tagging in mid February.
To be eligible to show and sell a market animal in Fleming County
the member must currently be in the 4th thru the 12th grade.
However, rules for Germantown and District/State Fair states
that a member can be 9 years old on Jan 1, 2008 and
be eligible to show at those levels.
Students meeting that age limit also were required
to receive the 6 hours of classroom instruction.
Once again, failure to attend 6 hours of educational classes
eliminates the 4-H member from participation.
If you have any questions, please call the Fleming County Extension Office at 845-4641.
Also, Livestock Judging Practice did not cover the 6 hours.

------  --------  --------------------------------------------------------------------  ------  ------
Please call the Fleming County Extension Office at 845-4641 if you have questions.

Fleming County 4H Silver Stirrups Competes At District

Five Fleming County 4H Silver Stirrups members recently
competed on the District Level for an opportunity to compete at the
State 4H Horse Show in Louisville.
Kayla Jones, Lea Dryden, Shayla Robinson, Chad Martin and Nathan Adamson
have put in long hours practicing for the event.
Each participated in a variety of classes at the show held recently.
We wish to congratulate Lea, Shayla, Chad and Nathan for
advancing on to the State Contest.
In addition, several other Silver Stirrups members
and their families will attend the State Show to cheer on our members.
The trip to Louisville is made possible by the
hard work of members and their families,
plus the kind donations made in support of the two
Fun Shows put on by the club each year.

The Silver Stirrups is going great, so let’s keep it up!

VISIT A VIRTUAL 4-H FARM

Walk Your Land
is a program intended to help landowners
protect their property against methamphetamine production.

Do you know that methamphetamine labs are
often found in rental properties and homes?
Homes used to produce meth pose a risk to
vulnerable adults and children who live with people who make meth.
If you visit these homes, your health may also be at risk.

Suspicions of meth production are nothing to hide. Ignoring these signs may put the
health of present and future
residents of a meth-production site at risk.
Although clean-up of a dwelling may be expensive, the
health risks cost much more.
If you find evidence of a meth lab on your property.

DO NOT Smell, DO NOT Move, DO NOT Examine, DO NOT Throw Away Solid Waste,
DO
NOT Pour or Flush Liquid Waste, DO NOT Use Containers You Suspect
Have Been Used for Meth Production

The emphasis is on "hands-on" learning that focuses on the youth's area of interest. Programs are conducted with the help of parents, adult volunteer leaders and professional staff who organize educational experiences.  Youth participate in organized 4-H clubs, special interest and project groups, 4-H school enrichment programs, 4-H camp and other special activities.
