4-H Youth Development
4-H/Youth Development
The 4-H/Youth Development program creates opportunities and supportive environments for youth and adults to become capable, competent and caring citizens. The emphasis is on "hands-on "learning that focuses on the youth's area of interest. Programs are conducted with the help of parents, adult volunteer leaders and professional staff who organize educational experiences. Youth participate in organized 4-H clubs, special interest and project groups, 4-H school enrichment programs, 4-H camp and other special activities.

2012 Invest In Youth
Are you interested in seeing your children involved in 4-H Livestock? Would you like to see your child develop responsibility and a sense of pride? Would you like to have more family time, while seeing your kids increase their physical activities? Then this could be the project for you.
To participate Elliott County 4-H Livestock as a 4-Her they must be 9—18 years old as of January 1, 2012. To participate as a Cloverbud they must be 5—8 years old as of January 1, 2012. Club members don’t have to show an animal and are welcome to participate in educational activities to learn about animals.
Cloverbuds are only allowed to show a goat or a lamb and youth and parents must take care of the animal and have adequate shelter available for the animal.
If you are interested classes will start on February 9 at 4:00pm at the Elliott County Soil Conservation Office. At this meeting we will determine future meeting times. Future meeting dates are March 3, March 8, April 12, May 3, June 7, July 12, and August 9. Each participant must get 6 hours of education to participate in the show. Meetings are very active and involve games and other activities to teach about sheep, goat, swine, and beef animals. Elliott County Certified 4-H Livestock Volunteer Leaders are John Paul Skaggs and Mary Skaggs. If you have any question please give the Extension Office a call at 606-738-6440 or check us out on facebook under Elliott County Extension ANR Programs.
