Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program - Norma Malone -- EFNEP Assistant

The Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) is a federally funded program with a trademark for quality.  Conducted by the University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service, EFNEP paraprofessionals work with groups and individuals with children to select more nutritious diets and increase their ability to manage a food budget.  EFNEP makes a difference in the lives of Kentucky families.

EFNEP provides nutrition education, cooking tips, recipes, and money-saving ideas.  Hands-on activities include:

  • The new Pyramid is here!  MyPyramid symbolizes a personalized approach to healthy eating and physical activity.  The symbol has been designed to be simple.  It was developed to remind consumers to make healthy food choices and to be active every day.

  • Plan for Savings

  • Meal Planning  - (easy guide to 5-a-day for better health)

  • Label Power

  • Feeding Children

  • Breakfast Makes a Difference

  • Food Safety

  • Blood Pressure, Diabetes, Weight Control, and Heart Healthy Choices

Spanish link  --As a new service to international visitors, EeE has put up a version of its Web site in Spanish. Relevant sections-Home, About Us, Contacts and access to the Publications collection-are available in Spanish from the original English site.  The Spanish Web site is not all that's new at EeE. In June, new publications were added, such as Teaching Children about Food Safety, Guiding Young Children, Helping Your Children Cope with Anger, Shock Chlorination of Wells and a series of publications on disaster preparedness.  Two more publications, The Changing Face of the Rural West and Food Safety Begins on the Farm are being prepared and will soon be available. Some of these publications come from EeE's growing list of contributors, including Clemson University, the Western Rural Development Center and the Good Agricultural Practices Program at Cornell University.
