Leadership development is a major emphasis area of UK Cooperative Extension Service efforts. A regional and state-wide issue identified by many faculty, staff and county extension councils during the Regional Issues and Programming Committee process this year was a need for leadership development training for agents, staff, extension leaders, and community leaders. To help address the issue, the Cooperative Extension Service, through our new Center for Leadership Development, is partnering with Living Leadership, a division of Maximum Impact Inc., to present an exciting leadership conference that will be attracting more than 60,000 business leaders around the globe via satellite broadcast “Delivering the Right Way” on October 20, 2004 at sites throughout Kentucky.

Top experts in the field of leadership development will be featured including:

Mikhail Gorbachev, President of the Soviet Union from 1985-1991; 1990 Nobel Peace Prize winner; and 1990 Time Magazine “Man of the Decade.”

Jim Collins, best selling author of Good to Great and Built to Last; Founder of Colorado-based Think Tank and Management Laboratory.

Peter F. Drucker, Lecturer and Seminal thinker on the contemporary organization; best-selling author of The Effective Executive and The Essential Drucker; the Father of Modern Management.

Russell Simmons, Founder of Rush Communications and Phat Farm; prolific entrepreneur and media mogul.

Larry Bossidy, former Chairman and CEO of Honeywell, Inc.; best-selling author of Execution: The Discipline of Getting Things Done.

Rosabeth Moss Kanter, Professor of Business Administration, Harvard Business School; Editor of Harvard Business Review, 1989-1992; best-selling author of Confidence.

The UK Cooperative Extension Service will be down linking the “live” program at two major sites in Kentucky; Lexington and Louisville. The fee for the general public to attend this living leadership conference is $199 per person at these sites. However, because of our statewide presence and cooperation from several county Extension offices, we are able to offer the same program at 17 additional sites across the Commonwealth. Further, at these county sites, Living Leadership has agreed to allow us to provide this high quality program at a much reduced rate ($99 per person). At each of the sites, including all of those across the state, participants will receive a workbook, meal and beverage, and a year’s subscription to Business Week. The deadline for registration at your county site is October 1.

Providing a downlink to sites across Kentucky is one of the many efforts the University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service is making to provide top quality leadership development opportunities for the people in the Commonwealth of Kentucky without having to travel outside of their community.
