Community and Economic Development Rural Development Clubs are a very important part of the Community in Butler County. Rural Development truly got its start in Butler County in August of 1956. It was then that representatives from several agencies, including the UK Extension Service, met with farmers and businessmen to decide if Butler County should participate in the program. The basics idea of the program was to get people who were natural leaders to take initiative and get people to help themselves. The Butler County Development Association was then formed. The idea of community based leadership was a new one, but it was well received by people in rural communities. Soon Rural Development Clubs were organized in several Butler County communities. These clubs served as gathering places for people in the community. The Rural Development Program in Butler County has always been focused on benefiting all citizens of the county. Over the years the Butler County Rural Development Program has undergone many changes. There have been club=organized in many of the communities in Butler Count, some have remained active and some not. but the things they accomplished should be evident to all Butler Contains.
