High Adventure Program
Trimble County's 4-H High Adventure Program

This program will be the first of its kind for Kentucky 4-H’ers. This camping series will teach our youth many different key lessons about enjoying our environment. They will learn a vast amount of information about backpacking using the National 4-H Outdoor Adventure curriculum. We want to instill the value of the outdoors in each participant, and the responsibility that comes with it. We want our kids to be able to explore the environment that they live in locally, and to have the opportunity to travel to a place where they may not get the chance to ever see otherwise.
Are you interested in Hiking or Backpacking? Are you interested in learning survival in the woods? We are having a series of classes to learn these things, and do different hikes from a day hike, to a three day hike (having to camp out during the night on the trail.) And a 5 Day Hiking trip. Sign up by contacting the Extension office at (502) 255-7188, or by E-mailing me at Ralph.Hance@uky.edu! For ages 9-19. The group will hike in a couple of Kentucky State Parks and other trails.
Prior to the High Adventure Orientation Camping Trip in April, we will have Three classes, (dates have not been set) to go through the National 4-H Outdoor Adventure Curriculum. You must attend these classes and the Orientation Camping Trip in order to be eligible for the other High Adventure backpacking trip for your age group. Other requirements, i.e. physical, release of liability, will be available at the first Class date.
You will be split into groups during the Orientation Camping trip based upon your own limits. Each Group will determine their own trail, and how far they would like to push themselves as a group. You will learn teamwork skills as well as learning about pushing your own limitations .
The 3 Day High Adventure Extreme Trip will be for 15-18 year olds who would like to do a more survival camping trip. We will pack light, and not carry tents. This is for the individual who would like to push themselves above what they thought they could accomplish!
