In addition to those listed below, each program area has individual councils such as Homemaker Council, 4-H Council and Ag/Hort Council.
Shelby County District Board
The Shelby County District Board is an agency ofthe state to function with authority for making fiscal and financial decisions for the Extension District in cooperation with the University of Kentucky. The District Board is composed of the county Judge Exexutive and six other citizens residing within the Extension District. Members are nominated from the Extension Council membership and serve a three year term, without limit of reappointment. The District Board meets once a month at the Shelby County Extension Office. Shelby County Extension Council
The Extension Council is the primary orgnaization representing the people of the county in direction of the total Extension Program. It is an organized body of volunteer leaders that identify, with the Extension Agents, local problems and issues, assist in program implementation, participate in determining program sucess, and communicate program accomplishments and funding needs to decision makers. In addition, the council provides advice, recommendations and assistance to the District Board for use in make business and fiscal matter decisions for the overall well being of the people adn communities in the Extension District. In Shelby County, a diverse group of 34 men and women from all areas of the county work with Extension Agents as council members. These leaders represent all major programming areas including Agriculture, Horticulture, 4-H Youth Development, Family and Consumer Sciences and Community Development. The Extension Council meets on a quarterly basis at the Shelby County Extension Office and is always interested in new members. We would love to have you inquire about or visit one of our meetings.
