Forestry & Natural Resources

Forestry covers 40% of Grayson County.  It is predominately
hardwood growth with some pines available which were planted by
private landowners.  Overall the forest is growing faster than harvest.
However, most of the time, sales are from unmanaged, small,
private tracts.  Timber markets have the advantage of three large wood
processing companies being located in the county; Baillie Lumber,
Escue Wood Preserving and Styline Industries.

The Kentucky Master Logger Program has provided technical training
for loggers and assistance to land areas to improve water quality and
implement (B.M.P.'s) Best Management Practices, to become
environmentally correct for forest production.
